Taiwanese band Sizhukong blend jazz idioms with traditional Taiwanese/Chinese folk music into an exotic mix of striking melodies and shifting tempos. Beautiful and beguiling Scottish folk music taken into the future with guitarist, Graeme Stephen, and piper, whistle player and saxophonist Fraser Fifield.

This summer Edinburgh will welcome 11 splendid performing art groups from Taiwan. These groups will showcase their performances in the renowned Edinburgh International Festival (EIF), Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Starting from 19th July Taiwanese band Sizhukong will blend jazz idioms with traditional Taiwanese/Chinese folk music into an exotic mix of striking melodies .....

There are so many symbolic moments in this intimate work by Taiwan’s Water Reflection Dance Ensemble, that your mind races trying to figure them all out. It’s not until the end, however, when choreographer Hui-Chen Tan invites you to ask questions and pass comment in the foyer, that you find out. Which, in some ways, is too late.

 

This newfound freedom of movement....

Ah, the classic boy-meets-overcoat tale. A civil servant discovers that his old overcoat isn’t protecting him from the St. Petersburg cold so he saves up his roubles to go and see a tailor. There are only three performers on stage: Ai-Cheng Ho, a dancer playing the overcoat-loving Akaky Bashmachkin, Chen-Han Wu, a percussionist who provides perfectly timed slapstick sound effects for Ho’s movements and Oleg Liptsin, also the director, who plays....
